The real question isn’t about their clothes or the background, but simply about what they’re sitting on. In reality, nothing at all: there’s no chair, no bench, no visible support. The image has been altered to create an illusion, and our brains automatically imagined an invisible chair because the position of the bodies corresponds to someone sitting. Our minds thus complete the image without us even realizing it.
