The photograph shows a boy sitting in the grass, a book resting on his lap, his gaze almost shy. Nothing alarming. Nothing to suggest that he would become one of the most infamous criminals of the 20th century. And yet… behind this image frozen in time lies the story of Jeffrey Dahmer, a name many know but don’t always dare to pronounce.
An apparently ordinary childhood

Born in May 1960 in Ohio, in the American Midwest, Jeffrey Dahmer grew up in a home that, from the outside, seemed typical. His father, passionate about science, had high ambitions for his son. His mother, more emotionally fragile, longed for a stable life.
The early years are described as relatively calm. Curious and observant, the child asks many questions about the world around him. But little by little, tensions arise within the home. The father’s absences, the mother’s personal difficulties, and an unstable family atmosphere take their toll.
At four years old, a minor surgical procedure is sometimes mentioned as a significant event. Afterwards, the child seems more reserved, quieter. He gradually isolates himself and withdraws into himself.
