Charcot’s disease: here are the first signs to know to recognize this disease

There are actually two main forms of Charcot’s disease.

The first form mainly affects the limbs, such as the arms and legs. It usually begins with muscle weakness in a hand, arm, or leg, then progresses gradually.

The second form is more related to the muscles of the mouth and throat. In this case, the first signs may be difficulty speaking clearly, chewing, or swallowing certain foods.

These two forms evolve differently, but they have in common that they progressively affect the muscles in  amyotrophic lateral sclerosis .

A gradual evolution of symptoms

Over time, muscle weakness increases and can affect different parts of the body. Everyday tasks can become more difficult, and fatigue may be more prevalent.

Some people may also experience muscle or joint pain related to muscle fatigue. Communication can also become more difficult when the speech muscles are affected.

Even though the progression is gradual, each person experiences the disease differently, with symptoms and progression that can vary.
